Khloe: Four hours to forever

Introducing Khloe

This is the story of Khloe whose story became one of love, trust, and a forever home.

HOW I FOUND MY HOME

My name used to be Kit. Back then, life felt a little uncertain. I lived with my sister and other poodles who had all been rescued. I was a little scared and nervous that I didn't know what my future held.

Then one day, everything changed. A woman who had loved a poodle named Spencer was feeling the quiet ache of loss, and when the world slowed during COVID, that loneliness grew.

Mommy heard that I needed a home, and in that moment her loneliness began to fade as she realized we needed each other.

So Mommy and Mimi (my other favorite person) drove four whole hours just to meet me.

When they first saw me, I was scared and shaking, unsure of what would happen next. But they didn’t hesitate.

They looked at me with love in their eyes, and in that moment, I was theirs. They were mine.

MY NEW LIFE

When I first arrived,  I was nervous and quiet. Then something beautiful happened. The kitties became my friends. The house began to feel warm and familiar. In the evenings, I curled up in bed with Mommy, and was safe and close. That’s when I started to understand what it meant to be loved.

MY FAVORITES

Now, I have a life full of joy. I take turns sleeping with Mommy and Mimi, and my Lamby goes everywhere.

My favorite thing in the whole world is going for walks. I don’t need words to ask. I simply place my paw on them, wag my tail, and look into their eyes. Somehow, they always understand.

I love to dress up fancy and go out where people admire me. My tutu is perfect for watching fireworks (they don't even scare me).

I love car rides. Especially when they lead me to pup cups.

When I am home, I love pizza nights. The delivery people always fall in love with me, and I make sure to greet them like they’ve been waiting their whole lives just to meet me.

SHOWING MY LOVE AND LETTING GO OF SCARY THINGS

When I want to say “I love you,” I don’t use words. I place my paw gently on Mommy or Mimi, look deep into their eyes, and then curl as close as I can.

There were fears I had to let go of along the way. I used to be afraid of things like paper sacks and even the sound of the fridge opening.

Stairs felt impossible; but Mommy and Mimi were patient. They showed me, step by step, that I was safe. And one day, I wasn’t just going down the stairs, I was racing up and down them.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I want the world to know that dogs like me have so much love to give. Poodles are smart, gentle, and sweet.

We may come from uncertain beginnings, but with love and patience, we become something extraordinary.

I may have started as Kit, a scared little dog; but now, I am brave and have found my home with Mommy and Mimi.

Because of you I am safe.

Because of you, I am loved.

Because of you, I belong.

Because of you, I am rescued.
