Up Close and Personal: Macro Photography and the Details of a Dog

A New Experience

At least once a year, I spend the weekend with another photographer (or two) in what I like to call our creative retreat. We spend the weekend swimming in the pool, eating, laughing and of course, experimenting with various photography techniques and subjects.

During our retreat a couple of weeks ago, I had the chance to experiment with macro photography.  Not only did I photograph flowers; but at one point, I turned the lens on to the sleeping dogs.

Macro photography is all about capturing details. textures, curves, and the tiny moments we often overlook. It forced me to slow down and really concentrate on what I was observing through the lens.

Trying this new approach wasn’t just creatively fulfilling; it also gave me insight on what I can add to your Legacy Session Experience.

Your Legacy Session

By exploring new techniques like macro photography, I sharpen my eye for detail and emotion. That means when I photograph your pet, I’m not just documenting what they look like—I’m capturing what makes them yours.

These tiny features may seem small, but they tell the story of a life well-loved. By embracing new tools and perspectives, I’m better able to create images that feel intimate and timeless.

Your Pet Photographer

Every session I photograph is a chance to honor the bond between you and your pet.  Whether it’s classic portraits or detailed moments, I use lighting, editing, and creative direction to turn your pet’s personality into artwork.

Experimenting with macro photography reminded me that growth comes from being curious and asking the question, "What if?".

That’s the same energy I bring to every session: the willingness to slow down, look closer, and create something truly one-of-a-kind.

So when you select me as your pet photographer, you’re choosing someone who is constantly evolving, always inspired by animals, and passionate about capturing what makes your pet uniquely them.
