The Sounds of Home: The Little Sounds That Tell Your Pet's Story

The Sound of Home

There are sounds in your home that you probably don't even notice anymore.

The click of paws across the floor.

The jingle of a collar as your pet walks down the hallway.

The little sigh they make when they settle into their favorite spot.

The sound of them coming to find you.

The happy noise they make when they know it's time for dinner, a walk, or their favorite treat.

Right now, these sounds are simply part of everyday life; but that's what makes them so important. These ordinary sounds of today can become some of the memories we treasure most tomorrow.

1. The Sound of Their Paws

You may know your pet is coming before you ever see them. Maybe it's a quick little tap when they're excited. Perhaps it's the slow sound of your senior pet making their way toward you.

You've heard it thousands of times. You might even recognize who is coming just by the sound.

 2. The Jingle of Their Collar

There's something comforting about hearing those tags jingle.

It means your pet is following you from room to room. Sometimes it means they're waiting at the door for a walk.

That little sound becomes so familiar that you may not realize how much it has become part of your home.

One day, you may wish you could hear it again.

3. The Way They Greet You

Every pet has their own way of saying, You're home!

Maybe there is barking. Does their entire rear end start moving because their tail can't possibly contain their excitement?

Perhaps they simply walk over, lean against your legs, and look up at you.

Whatever it looks like, their greeting is part of your relationship.

And while you may not be able to preserve the actual sound forever, you can preserve the moment surrounding it.

4. Their Happy Sounds

Every pet has sounds they make when they're especially content.

A purr, a little whine, a happy sigh or a contented grunt when they stretch out beside you.

These sounds are easy to overlook because these moments occur daily.

It is these moments where the heart of your relationship lives.

5. The Sounds of Their Favorite Things

Listen the next time your pet does something they love.

The excitement when you open the treat container, the jingle of the leash, the squeak of their favorite toy or the scratching at the door when they're ready to go outside.

These sounds tell your pet's story. They tell us what makes our pets happy and what makes them uniquely yours.

6. The Quiet Sounds

Not every meaningful sound is loud. Sometimes it's the quietest ones.

The soft breathing beside you, the sigh as your pet settles down for the night, the gentle snoring from their favorite bed or the little movements they make when they are dreaming.

These are the sounds that tell you, without words, I'm here and I am yours.

So How Do We Preserve a Sound?

You can't photograph a bark. You can't frame a purr. You can't hang the sound of paws coming down the hallway on our wall.

But you can begin by noticing.

Take a few minutes today and simply listen to your pet.

Then write down the sound you would most want to remember.

If you can, record it on your phone. It doesn't need to be perfect. It doesn't need to be a beautiful video.

You're simply creating a little piece of your everyday life that you can return to someday.

Why The Legacy Project was Created Created for You.

This project is to assist you in noticing the life and little details you're already living with your pet.

Every week, you will take a few intentional minutes to Cherish, Preserve, and Celebrate the relationship you share with your pets.

Their legacy isn't something you create someday. You are creating it right now.
